Bridge the Trails -
Connect Stevensville

Help build a pedestrian bridge over Hickory Creek to connect Stevensville’s parks, nature trails, neighborhoods, and families.

Friends of Berrien County Trails is working with the Village of Stevensville, Sarett Nature Center, and community partners to raise support for a new bridge over Hickory Creek. This bridge would close a long-standing gap in Stevensville’s trail system, creating a safer, continuous route between existing parks and natural areas.

Why This Bridge Matters

A Small Bridge With A Big Community Payoff

Stevensville already has beautiful parks, wooded trails, and access to Hickory Creek. But today, those spaces are disconnected. Trails through Kerlikowske Park and the Sarett Nature Center property lead walkers toward the creek, then stop. Just across the water are Hickory Creek Park and the Jung Nature Trail.

The proposed bridge would complete the missing connection.

With one bridge, Stevensville can create a continuous, off-road route that links parks, trails, neighborhoods, and natural spaces into one safer and more accessible outdoor experience.

Four places.
One connected trail experience.

The Hickory Creek bridge would help connect:

Kerlikowske Park

A Village-owned natural area with mowed trails that continue toward the Sarett Nature Center property.

Sarett Nature Center Property

A natural area north of Kerlikowske Park with a mowed trail along Hickory Creek. Today, the trail dead-ends at the creek.

Hickory Creek Park

A central Village park with family-friendly amenities and future improvements, including bathrooms planned for 2026.

Jung Nature Trail

A natural trail area along Hickory Creek that offers a one-mile round-trip walking experience but is not currently connected to the Kerlikowske and Sarett trail route.

Your Donation Helps Connect Nature, Neighborhoods, and Community Life

This project is more than a bridge. It is a way to make Stevensville’s outdoor spaces safer, more useful, and more welcoming for everyone.

Improve Safety

The bridge would provide a designated off-road route for walkers and bikers, reducing unsafe detours and helping people move through the area more comfortably.

Expand Trail Access

The project would add more than a mile of connected trail opportunity in the Village of Stevensville.

Connect Four Parks and Properties

The bridge would help link Kerlikowske Park, the Sarett Nature Center property, Hickory Creek Park, and Jung Nature Trail.

Strengthen Community

Families, neighbors, students, visitors, and outdoor enthusiasts would gain a new way to gather, explore, and enjoy Stevensville’s natural spaces.

Support Local Tourism

A connected park-to-park trail and creek corridor can attract walkers, cyclists, paddlers, nature lovers, and visitors looking for outdoor recreation.

Your Donation Can Go Twice As Far

The campaign goal is to raise $45,000 through community crowdfunding. If that goal is met, the MEDC will match that amount, creating a total of $90,000 to help fully fund the design, materials, and construction of the Hickory Creek bridge.

That means every donation, large or small, helps move the project closer to construction and helps unlock additional support for Stevensville.

Built by the community. . by Partnership

Friends of Berrien County Trails is proud to support this effort in partnership with the Village of Stevensville, Sarett Nature Center, and community members who believe trails make places healthier, safer, and more connected.

Together, we can turn a disconnected trail system into a continuous outdoor experience that serves residents and visitors for years to come.
